Desending WatersIn the early 1960's I was given a camera, bundles of film and a task: "Choose subjects, photograph them, develop and print them." With one small hitch: no light-meter! It all worked out well, for I learned without doubt to appraise the conditions around me, through the lens and in the darkness & solitude of my basement darkroom.Tools to carry through life. In the early years, those tools and objects that came forth took center stage; it was not until twenty years later that the more important 'questions' stole the spotlight. By then, 'paint & canvas' had joined the cadre of mediums to search with. Twenty years further, the spotlight still lit, the subject in center stage, the questions continue; marking each new image as they mark each new day...never to be repeated and each unique unto itself. |
